History of the Structure

Trinidad Municipal College (TMC) building is the first Municipal Hall of Trinidad, Bohol. It is a two-storey building built in 1947 when Trinidad was established. Then, it was restored by the Local Government Unit (LGU) in order to preserve the purpose of preserving this building as historical and cultural heritage, and be promoted as a tourist destination. It is now being used as an administrative building (ground floor) and school library (second floor).

September 1, 1947: establishment of the Municipality of Trinidad per Executive Order No. 80, Series of 1947 signed by the late President Manuel A. Roxas through all the community leaders’ efforts to regain its autonomy after the barangays were ceded. This was the year the construction of the building was started.

1957: Historically, this was the year when the building was inaugurated as Municipal Hall.

1957-1979: This was the center place of governance as the Municipal Hall of Trinidad, Bohol.

1980: The building was emptied when public offices were moved to, then, new Municipal Hall (now the Trinidad Municipal Hall – Annex)

June 1980: The building was used for Trinidad Institute of Technology (TIT). Mr. Paciano Petarco initiated the plan for the project of establishing a college institution in the town. He consulted and sought the help of then Municipal Mayor Atty. Avelino N. Puracan. Consequently, the mayor that time who consequently assured Petarco him that he will look for a competent financier/sponsor to start the project. Incidentally, he met Mr. Antero delos Reyes, owner of a private vocational school in Davao during a guest engagement by Trinidadnon Association. Mr. delos Reyes was persuaded to put up a branch of his school in Trinidad offering short-term vocational courses such as typewriting, stenography , tailoring,  and bookkeeping. However, TIT did not last longer than a semester.

November 1980-May 1985: the building was unoccupied.

June 1985: The building was reopened for Trinidad Junior College (TJC) with the incorporators’ earnest intention to establish a lasting college in town. This school was registered in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with SEC No. 136393. It was used for classrooms, faculty,  and other administrative rooms.

June 1985-July 2003: This was used as Trinidad Junior College (TJC)

August 2003-April 2016: This was used as Trinidad Municipal College (TMC) building classrooms

2009: The ground floor of the building was vacated since additional classrooms of the school have been constructed while the second floor was still used as classrooms

May 2016-Present: The ground floor is used as an administrative building and the second floor is occupied as TMC Library.
